2020 NXP Cup Innovation Challenge 1

When we launched the NXP Cup Innovation Challenge, we expected high-quality projects. Still, the caliber of NXP Cup autonomous automobiles submitted absolutely astounded us. From aesthetics to functionality, the self-driving cars created for the NXP Cup Innovation Challenge proved impressive. And that made picking just three winners pretty difficult. In our mind, all participants are winners

A major thank you to NXP for collaborating with us to empower makers around the world, to contest participants. But without further ado, here are the NXP Cup Innovation Challenge winners!

1st place - Team VAXNA: Coming in at first place with a super cool custom-built PCB, an excellent soldering job, and outstanding documentation, Team VAXNA completely stunned us. Top job, Team VAXNA!

2nd place - Team rascar2020: Sliding in at second place is the aptly-named Team rascar2020. We loved their use of 3D printed parts, and additions such as an ultrasonic sensor, plus a fan that added down-force to achieve better cornering speeds. A bang up job by Team rascar2020!

3rd place - Team witek117: Last but certainly not least is Team witek117 with their Knight Rider autonomous vehicle. For starters, we appreciated their car name, the Knightrider:kitty, a reference to the classic David Hasselhoff-starring television series “Knight Rider.” We applaud their use of custom PIXY firmware, a terrific feat, and a laser on the front of the car gets extra points.

2019 Cypress Bluetooth 5 IoT Contest 3

  Bluetooth Mesh projects poured in, from home gardening kits to burglar alarms, pollution monitoring systems, smart agriculture systems, and even virtual reality headsets. More than just the quantity of submissions, we were impressed with the quality. Any of these nifty inventions could be packaged and sold as an off-the-shelf product. 
  Thanks to Cypress Semiconductor for providing the technology and resources to enable clever, forward-thinking makers. And thanks to our dedicated community members for being part of the Electromaker family! It was difficult selecting winners, each project blew us away. But without further ado, here are our winners...

2019 Microchip IoT 1

Featuring the ultra-versatile Microchip AVR-IoT WG Development Board which simplifies secure data transmissions to Google Cloud, we received loads of awesome project idea submissions. Each and every concept was spectacular, and real-world projects impressed us quite a bit. The stakes were pretty high, with the first prize as entry to the Microchip MASTERS 2019, second and third prizes consisting of robust hardware bundle featuring an Arduino Uno, Curiosity PIC32MZEF dev board, and tons of goodies. 

While we appreciate and love all entries, here are our winners! 

Mohamed Lanjri El Halimi snagged first prize with an impressive IoT industrial monitoring and control device. This IoT incubator is seriously cool, and could easily integrate into an industrial setting. 

Al Watt earned second prize with an ingenious domestic central heating radiator efficiency optimiser which truly wowed it. Capable of logging the input and output temperatures of a radiator, it’s a nifty DIY smart home device.

Finally, the always-ingenious Dane and Nicole (aka 8bitsandabyte) put their AVR-IoT WF Development Board to excellent use with the Pick-a-plant, a device for helping to select the best plant for your location. As such, Nicole and Dane snagged third prize. Check out these fantastic projects, and other superb Microchip projects.
